Information for Prospective Graduate Students at the Department of Algebra

Master's Degree in Technical Mathematics:

Such students have to be accepted for the curriculum "Computermathematik" of the Johannes Kepler University Linz. It takes at least 2 years and includes exams for 84 ECTS-points plus writing a Master's thesis (additional 36 ECTS-points) in algebra.

The language of instruction is usually German, some courses are taught in English.

Doctoral Degree:

Such students have to be admitted to the curriculum "Doktoratstudium der Technischen Wissenschaften" (Doctoral program in Technical Sciences) or "Doktoratstudium der Naturwissenschaften" (Doctoral program in Natural Sciences) by the Johannes Kepler University Linz. To be admitted, applicants must hold a Master's degree in Technical or Natural Sciences. Information on the admission as a student of the Johannes Kepler University Linz can be found here. We expect students to take several courses and exams in Abstract Algebra before they start to work on their doctoral thesis. For the doctoral thesis, we expect original research work in near-ring theory or other research areas of the Department Faculty. The dissertations that have been written at our department can be found on our List of Publications.
